Telstar has re-signed attacker Nökkvi Thorisson on loan from Sparta Rotterdam. The Icelandic player will join the squad on Monday but is not available for tomorrow's home match against Ajax.
This is reported by NH Nieuws. The club from Velsen-Zuid currently sits 13th in the Eredivisie with three points from two matches. Andries Jonker's team has scored three goals and conceded four. Tomorrow's opponent, Ajax, is seventh in the table.
Who is Nökkvi Thorisson?
Nökkvi Thorisson is a 25-year-old Icelandic forward. This marks his second spell at Telstar. He previously played eight official matches for the club in the second half of last season, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Earlier this season, Thorisson actually played against Telstar for Sparta. In that match, which ended 1-3, he scored a goal and registered an assist.
Before joining Sparta in 2024, the Icelander played in Belgium for Beerschot and in the United States for St. Louis City. Technical manager Peter Hofstede is pleased with the return. "We are happy that Nökkvi is back in Velsen-Zuid. He knows the club, the environment, and knows what is expected of him," Hofstede said.
Why did Soufiane Hetli leave?
Thorisson's arrival follows the departure of Soufiane Hetli. The 25-year-old attacker was sold for a fee of 250,000 euros to Moroccan top club Wydad Casablanca. Hetli had renewed his contract with Telstar just this past summer, extending it until 2027. An option in that contract was activated to facilitate the transfer.
Hetli joined Telstar in the summer of 2024 from AFC, with whom he earned promotion to the Eredivisie. Last season, he made 31 appearances for Telstar, scoring three goals and providing one assist. At his new club, he will be a teammate of Hakim Ziyech. Hetli's departure created space in the squad for a new addition, leading to Thorisson's return.
What does this mean for the squad?
Thorisson's return gives manager Andries Jonker more options in attack. The player is immediately usable because he already knows the club, the players, and the methods. His Eredivisie experience and previous stint at Telstar should help him settle in quickly. Fans can follow the full squad on our squad page.
The signing comes at a key moment. Telstar is six points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar and will look to connect with the mid-table in the coming weeks. The current league table is always available on our standings page.
What are the immediate consequences?
Thorisson joins the group on Monday but will miss the next league match. Telstar hosts Ajax at home on Sunday afternoon at 16:45. That match can be followed live via NH Sport on the radio. It's an important test for Jonker's team, which is searching for consistency after a win and a loss.
The focus now is on preparing for the Ajax match and integrating Thorisson into the team from next week. Several important fixtures are coming up, which you can view in our fixtures schedule. The club hopes the Icelander's return will contribute to a stronger offense and help improve their current 13th-place standing.
