Telstar keeps Gerald Alders for another year

Telstar has extended the loan of 21‑year‑old defender Gerald Alders through the 2026/27 season. The young Ajax player will therefore spend another year in Velsen‑South, now under the guidance of new coach Henk Brugge.

Why does Alders stay at Telstar?

Alders arrived from Ajax in January 2025 and featured in nine Eredivisie matches. His solid displays helped the club secure a vital point on the final matchday against FC Volendam. The club saw enough promise to rent him again, even though he remains under contract with Ajax until mid‑2028.

How does the extension fit the new coaching setup?

Henk Brugge takes over after Anthony Correia’s move to FC Utrecht. Brugge wants to build a stable defence and views Alders as a cornerstone. The defender now receives more responsibility, benefiting both his own growth and Telstar’s defensive steadiness.

What does this mean for Alders’ future?

With a contract at Ajax until 2028, Alders remains a potential option for the Amsterdam side. The extra season of experience at Telstar could boost his chances of earning a regular spot in Ajax’s first team later on. For Telstar it provides a reliable back‑line option at no direct cost, as Ajax covers his wages.

What impact could this have on Telstar’s league standing?

Telstar currently sits in the lower tier of the Eredivisie, but the added defensive certainty may help collect points in the crucial second half of the campaign. Alders’ presence gives coach Brugge more tactical flexibility when setting up a compact defence against top clubs.
