Telstar plays the rescheduled Eredivisie match away at FC Twente in De Grolsch Veste on Wednesday evening. John van den Brom's side hosts the team from Velsen in a fixture originally scheduled for matchweek three. Kick-off is at 18:45 and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
This encounter follows a memorable weekend for Telstar goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. Against SC Cambuur, he saved two penalties and scored two goals himself, becoming the first goalkeeper to score twice in a single Eredivisie match. It remains unclear if he will be allowed to take penalties again in the future. Telstar played much of that match with ten men and ultimately settled for a 2-2 draw.
Telstar currently sits thirteenth in the Eredivisie with four points from four games. The team has recorded one win, one draw, and two losses, with a recent form of loss, loss, draw, win. The goal difference needs improvement, with five scored and ten conceded for a -5 differential. The gap to leaders AZ Alkmaar is eleven points. The full standings are always up to date on our site.
FC Twente also comes off a 2-2 draw, last Sunday against FC Groningen. Manager John van den Brom stated his team came through that match in good physical condition. "FC Twente fysiek goed uit de wedstrijd tegen Groningen is gekomen," the coach told Ajax Showtime. Both teams, therefore, have the same number of points from their last outing.
For FC Twente, Stav Lemkin and Kristian Hlynsson are unavailable for the clash. Otherwise, Van den Brom has a full squad at his disposal. Telstar has reported no new injuries following the intense match against Cambuur, where they played a long period with ten men. Current squad information for Telstar can be found on our club page.
The performance of Ronald Koeman Jr. is naturally the focus heading into this match. His unique feat garnered national attention, but the question is whether he can continue his offensive role. Telstar's focus will now likely be on defensive solidity against an FC Twente side that is always tough at home.
After the trip to Enschede, Telstar faces an important away match against sc Heerenveen on Sunday, September 13th. Heerenveen currently sits twelfth in the table. It promises to be another exciting encounter. The complete season fixtures overview can be found here. The match against FC Twente kicks off at 18:45 in De Grolsch Veste.
