Telstar suffered a defeat away from home on Sunday afternoon. AZ Alkmaar won the Eredivisie match 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Mexx Meerdink.

The home side took control of the game from the start. In the nineteenth minute, Mexx Meerdink put AZ ahead following an assist from Valdemar Byskov Andreasen. Telstar offered little in response and failed to register a shot on target in the first half. Just before the break, Gerald Alders received a yellow card.

After halftime, manager H. Brugge tried to inject more pressure with substitutions. Rojendro Oudsten, Emirhan Demircan, Ar'jany Martha and Prince Aning came on. However, the threat remained limited to just one shot on target from Telstar, while goalkeeper R. Koeman was forced to make seven saves. The statistics underlined the story: AZ had 62% possession and took seventeen shots, compared to Telstar's three.

The loss means Telstar remain in 12th place in the Eredivisie with five points from six games. The team has now scored five goals and conceded eleven. The next fixture is on Saturday 11 October, when ADO Den Haag visit. The Hague side currently sit 17th. The full standings and squad are available on this site.
