Telstar will play in the Eredivisie for the first time since 1978 next season. The club from Velsen-Zuid defeated Willem II in the final of the play-offs. Mees Kaandorp scored twice and Youssef El Kachati made his ninth goal in ten matches. Telstar finished seventh in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and then won against ADO Den Haag and Den Bosch. Coach Anthony Correia said it's a dream to play in the Eredivisie. El Kachati is now without a contract, but he will likely not be without a club for long. Willem II had hoped to be the first club to promote through the play-offs since the current system was introduced in 2020. Erik Schouten, the captain of Willem II, said the defeat is hard to take. Telstar was founded in 1963 when VSV and IJVV Stormvogels merged. The club is named after a communications satellite launched by AT&T in 1962. Correia, who played for Telstar for 15 years, said it's a beautiful story to bring the club to the Eredivisie. Telstar won 3-1 in Tilburg after a 2-2 draw in the first match. Kaandorp scored after just six minutes and El Kachati made it 2-0. Willem II came back through an own goal by Rob Nizet, but Kaandorp sealed the deal with his second goal. El Kachati said it's a historic day for Telstar and that he's proud to be part of the team. Telstar qualified for the play-offs by finishing seventh in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, their best performance in 47 years. The club's stadium has a capacity of 3,625. Correia said that taking the club to the top flight is a boy's own story.
