Telstar goalkeeper Finn Mulder has taken a significant step in his development with a call-up to the Netherlands U19 squad. The 18-year-old from Beverwijk made his debut in a friendly against Austria during the recent international break.
Mulder signed his first professional contract at the start of this season and was permanently promoted to the first-team squad last summer. He is currently the third-choice goalkeeper at Telstar behind Ronald Koeman Jr. and Daan Reiziger. "I didn't see it coming. Suddenly the national team is at your door," Mulder said of his unexpected selection.
Mulder started against Austria and conceded one goal in the 1-0 defeat. In the same friendly tournament, the Dutch team also lost 6-1 to Portugal. Despite the results, the experience is valuable for the young keeper.
The goalkeeper is confident about his future at Telstar. "I do have confidence that one day I will be the first goalkeeper of Telstar," he stated. Manager Henk Brugge has a motivated reserve at his disposal in a season where the team sits 13th with five points from seven games. Their recent form reads LDLDL.
Mulder now returns to a club facing a key match this Sunday. Telstar host 17th-placed ADO Den Haag at their stadium in Velsen-Zuid, with kick-off at 2:30 PM. Fans can view the full squad and fixtures. The team will aim to break their negative run and take points against a direct rival in the lower reaches of the standings. Finn Mulder is in his first contract year and continues his development.
