Dennis Higler has been appointed the referee for the away match between Ajax and Telstar in round four of the Eredivisie. Allard Lindhout will serve as Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The KNVB announced this via its official website.
The Ajax-Telstar match takes place in round four, a stage in which the Amsterdam club has so far only played twice. Ajax has recently set its sights on the international calendar with an away game against FC Sion, aiming to secure a spot in the Conference League. For this reason the club had a weekend off, giving the players a few days of rest. Lucas Rosa enjoyed a short vacation in Croatia.
Higler’s appointment as referee follows a careful selection by the KNVB. He will steer the match in good order, assisted by the VAR, who closely monitors the play through cameras. The presence of a VAR is standard for Eredivisie matches at this level.
In addition to the match details, there is also news about Ajax’s stadium. The footbridge over Holterbergweg, which normally provides the route from P2 to the Johan Cruijff ArenA, is temporarily closed for maintenance. The municipality of Amsterdam is working on the bridge deck, steps, and railings. The work will continue until 17 November 2026. Supporters cannot use the footbridge during this period; a temporary stair from P2 leads to Holterbergweg, after which traffic lights allow crossing. P2 remains available for Ajax’s upcoming home matches.
For supporters who normally use the footbridge to reach the stadium, the maintenance means a slightly longer route. This applies to home fixtures against FC Sion, PSV, Willem II, Excelsior, NEC, and AZ. They do not need to find another parking spot.
The announcement of Higler as referee underscores the professionalism and continuity of the Eredivisie. It shows that the KNVB carefully assigns referees, taking into account club logistics and public safety. The presence of a VAR adds an extra layer of accuracy and fairness to the game.
The Ajax-Telstar match promises an intriguing confrontation, with both teams set to execute their tactical plans. Ajax will aim to leverage its strong attacking options, while Telstar will focus on a solid defense and quick transitions. The deployment of Higler and Lindhout will be crucial to ensuring an even and smooth flow of the match.
